Housing Co-operative
Who are we?

POP is a co-operative organising to develop genuinely affordable housing in Tower Hamlets

Design

We are proud residents of Tower Hamlets who have come together to address a common problem: the lack of high-quality, secure and affordable housing.

Design

We are committed to delivering housing solutions that can best guarantee permanent affordability and offer members an individual financial stake in their homes.

Design

We are engaged with the Tower Hamlets self-build framework and supported by Community-led Housing London.

Our Vision

Design

POP’s vision is to design and create housing for each other that meets housing needs in the borough and grounds us as part of the community. These homes will be ecologically sound, fit for present and future needs, and provide affordable housing for generations to come.

Design

We are inspired by the co-operative principles of shared ownership and democratic governance as a means for creating community, prosperity and social rootedness. We are also committed to ownership models that give members the option to build equity/partial ownership to shore up their longer term financial security.

Design

POP’s housing will be environmentally exemplary. For the construction, we will use carbon neutral or negative building material, integrate solar, heating and insulative technologies, and preserve and enhance existing urban greenery

Design

We aspire to be pioneers of a new generation of co-operators who create an imitable framework and will support and tutor other nascent co-operators and community housing initiatives. Tower Hamlets has an immense civil and voluntarist tradition. We walk in the footsteps of organisations like the Whitechapel Working Lads Institute, The Freedom Press, Toynbee Hall and others..
